M/V Swan delivers Seajacks Kraken

M/V swan, Sister ship of Tern, which was in halifax earlier in the month to move HMCS Chicoutimi, has arrived with the Brand New Seajacks Kraken, which is on contract for the Sable project.

"Seajacks has confirmed that it has signed the final contract with ExxonMobil Canada for Seajacks Kraken to work as an offshore accommodation unit for the Sable Project offshore Nova Scotia, starting in May 2009 for a 4-5 months period.
Seajacks Kraken is currently being constructed at Lamprell in Dubai and is on schedule for delivery in February 2009."

From the CBC:"Seven male stowaways found aboard a ship in Halifax Harbour were taken into custody by Canadian border service agents Thursday night.
They were on the Atlantic Concert, said Jennifer Morrison, a spokeswoman for the Canadian Border Services Agency.
The ship, run by Atlantic Container Line, arrived in port at about noon Thursday and was docked at Fairview Cove terminal. The Swedish-flagged vessel's last known port was Antwerp, Belgium, according to the website MarineTraffic.com."

Harbour Shipwrecks

Canadian minesweeper Middlesex lost just after the war near Lawrencetown Beach. She wrecked so close to the shore that a gangway was rigged to take the crew ashore.

New Container Business to Halifax

The CKYH Alliance, which includes shipping lines COSCO, K-Line, Yang Ming and Hanjin, announced a new all-water express service that will connect Halifax with the Far East. The weekly service, scheduled to start in Halifax May 3, will have eight K-Line vessels each with a capacity for 3,850 TEUs (20-foot equivalent units).

Halifax, NS - January 29, 2009 - CMA CGM, the world's 3rd largest container shipping company, has announced plans to initiate a new service which includes a regular call at the Port of Halifax.
The fortnightly service will connect Canada and the USA with the Caribbean, Central America, South America and Australasia. In particular, Canada, the US Midwest and the East Coast of the US will be connected via CMA CGM's Kingston, Jamaica hub to a broad range of North-South and East-West trade routes.
Halifax is the only Canadian port of call on the new service. The inaugural call of the "Black Pearl" service to the Port of Halifax is scheduled for Monday, February 23rd. Container handling services for CMA CGM vessels will be provided by Halterm Container Terminal Limited.
