Ocean Bertrand Jeansonne


Arrived in Halifax today and is tied up at Pier 24. Groupe Ocean usually operates in the St Lawrence around Quebec - so she is possibly bound for the Scotia Dock, as it is an Irving Built Tug. (same design as the Atlantic Oak, and Larch.

UPDATE: She's Brand new from the East Isle Shipyard in PEI, in Town for trials.

Seajacks Kraken is Back

Seajacks Kraken returned this morning to anchorage 7, it had been jacked up to the east of Halifax off Lawrencetown (Thanks to a good AIS hit) Before jacking up, it was seen very close to Cable Wharf

NT Dartmouth - Now in Red

Nt Dartmouth Spent a few days out of the harbor and came back repainted.. Alas still no AIS.

Melfi Marine to drop Hailfax port for Montreal
After almost 16 years Melfi Marine is dropping Halifax as a port of call in favour the Port of Montreal.

Cruise season over for Halifax-built ship
Pearl Seas Cruises said it had to cancel the remainder of the 2009 Eastern Canadian and St. Lawrence Seaway cruises because of deficiencies with the Pearl Mist recently discovered during sea trials, quality issues and construction delays.

Arrived with a drilling platform Rowan Gorilla 3 to Anchorage 1. Currently with 8 cables (8/10ths of a nautical mile) of Anchor Chain (Rode)

The rig will complete six months of work for Canadian Natural Resources starting in the third quarter of 2009. The work was valued at $55 million.

Kraken Ready to Depart?



The Seajacks Kraken has unjacked itself today. Perhaps ready to depart for the Sable Gas Field?

arrived in halifax from Quebec today.
The ship is open to the public Tuesday from 3 p.m. top 5 p.m. and Wednesday and Thursday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. A welcome ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday.She departs Thursday for Boston.

News Bits

Training exercise off McNabs Island could cause stir
Four to six coast guard vessels of various types and a helicopter will be involved in the search and rescue exercise. They will be simulating a search for a lifeboat and possibly looking for people in the water. The exercise will also involve lifting people out of the water.

Rolls-Royce supply vessel for Canada
Atlantic Towing Limited (Canada) has entered a long term charter with the Canadian oil and gas company EnCana Corporation for the vessel which will be built at the Halifax Shipyard in Nova Scotia. It will operate in the Deep Panuk field off the Canadian east coast.

B.E. “Esmeralda” To Halifax, and other news

The Chilean tall ship B.E. Esmeralda Departs Quebec City Tommorow at 3pm for halifax.
One of her sailors made it here allready when a Sick sailor airlifted to Halifax on May 4.

Also this week, on Friday, Halifax Inshore Rescue begins services for the season, and the first cruise ship of the year Holland America's Maasdam Arrives

Laid Up Ships



The Economic downturn has Lied up 2 ships so far in halifax waiting for work.
The M/V Georgia S - A Gypsum Carrier is now Laid up in Anchorage 11 at the north end of the Bedford Basin. The Gypsum business has dried up as new building is down. (gypsum being the main ingredient in the plaster used to make Drywall).


The M/V Maria Desgagnes is currently tied up at Pier 33, awaiting work after coming out of the Halifax Shipyards. (Seen Here behind the NT Dartmouth)

Titanic voyage planned
The Titanic Memorial Cruise website (http://www.titanicmemorialcruise.co.uk/) wants you to "reserve your place in history." Onboard the MS Balmoral, a ship operated by Fred Olsen Cruise Lines, whose parent company Harland and Wolff built the Titanic, passengers will be treated to the flavours of 1912.

HMCS Sackville Salutes HMCS Toronto






Update May 18 2009:
HMCS Sackville fires its main gun in memory of Rear Admiral William Moss Landymore. Rear Admiral Landymore served in the navy for 33 years and was recognized for his wartime service during the Battle of the Atlantic. His ashes were spread outside Halifax Harbour during a committal ceremony aboard HMCS Toronto on May 1.

Aqualife comes to Port of Halifax

From the Article: "Aqualife Logistics, which has developed a process to move live seafood intends to develop a new service out of Halifax that will deliver product to central Europe. Maersk Line, which had been a regularly scheduled caller to the port, has been designated the carrier for the new business, likely between June and August."
