Protostar N for Costco

The Container ship Protostar N is currently hauling cargo for retail giant Costco. The company chartered its own container ship and leased containers to ensure its product could be moved when container supply became constrained and shipping costs skyrocketed last year.

The ship spent the day at Fairview Cove, and sailed in the Evening.

Launching Day for AOPS #4

The Lunching Barge was towed out earlier this morning, and has now begun its slow submersion. Atlantic Willow, and Divers from RMI are on scene

William Hall Floated Free just after 3pm, and was alongside at the shipyard by 4pm. Teh Boa Barge 37 remained in the basin, where it will be refloated, and returned to Halifax Shipyard tomorrow.

At Anchor

(Above) Xpress Machu Picchu arrived this morning from Genova Italy, and went straight to anchor in the basin. Sailing for Melfi Lines, The ship has a date PSA’s Atlantic Hub terminal in the coming days.(Below) Franbo Lohas also took to anchor in the basin earlier in the week, after loading cable tanks at pier 9

UPDATE:
It was windy today, and looking at the AIS data, Xpress Machu Picchu (Top Left track), Franbo Lohas (top right track), Polar Circle (middle) and Nolhan Ava (bottom) all moved around considerably.

Maersk Idaho at Hangs around

Maersk Idaho arrived in Halifax on the 9th, at tied up at PSA Atlantic Hub. the Ship sailed on the 10th, but returned to Anchor in the basin on the 12th. The ship is now scheduled to move back to PSA’s Atlantic Hub again on the 15th, and then sail for Montreal.

Built in South korea in 2000 as Gosport Maersk, the ship took the US flag and its current name in 2009. Maersk Idaho was then moved to Maersk Singapore subsidiary, and took that flag in January 2022.

Franbo Lohas at Pier 9

The General cargo ship Franbo Lohas took to the basin anchorage before moving to pier 9. the ship is likely loading cable tanks.

Built as Thorco Lohas in 2015, the ship took its current name in 2021. Franbo Shipping lines is based in Taiwan, and was founded in 1998.

USS Cooperstown (LCS 23) brief visit.

The latest Freedom class LCS, USS Cooperstown (LCS 23) stopped in Halifax yesterday for about 8 hours. the ship arrived in the morning and sailed from the dockyard at 4:30.

The freedom class LCS program has been beset by a number of issues, including problems with the combining gear that connect the diesel engines and the turbines to the shafts, given the location of that combining gear, the navy has mothballed many of the early ships of the class, as the repair is too costly.

Virginia Ann to pier 9

The Offshore vessel Virginia Ann made a brief stop in Halifax, on its way south from Newfoundland. The ship is outfitted for ROV operations.

it is scheduled to sail later today.
