Affinity for Marine Atlantic Ferries

I have noticed a strong intrest in Marine Atlantic’s ferries past and present, amoung a wide swath of the population – not just shipping fenatics. Certainly any post I make is always highly read. It seems that they are an important part of the culture in Atlantic Canada, and not just Newfoundland – who has an obvious dependance on them..

Do people care as much about the NFL Caribou/Wood Island ferry? Do people miss the ferries, and perfer them over the bridge as seems to be the case with the love for Caribou and the Joseph and Clara Smallwood visa vie Highlanders and Blue Putties?

Update 01/17 Irving news Release:
 MV Highlanders at Halifax Shipyard
Marine Atlantic’s MV Highlanders ferry arrived in Nova Dock this month at the Halifax Shipyard. The ship is in for some repair and maintenance work on its docking stabilizers. The vessel is expected to be at the yard for approximately two weeks, and the repair work will employ up to 35 workers. The vessel was last in at Halifax Shipyard in April 2012 for general maintenance and repairs.

Ferry or Fishing??

Another Ferry tied up in Halifax – “The Walter Grey” She is Registered in St. Andrews NB.

She is Registered to Grey’s Aqua Management, as a fishing vessel. Grey’s Aqua appears to be a fish farming operation, and they presumably use the Ex Ferry to tend to their farms. No idea why she is in Halifax, though she was built in Dartmouth in 1974, and appered to have some work being done.
