Another Super Yacht ties up in Halifax

the Yacht To-Kalon arrived today and tied  up infront of the Maritime Museum. Built by the Burger Boat Co. in 2008, she is 30m long, carries 4800HP (About the same as Atlantic Oak), has a max speed of 27knots, and can carry 23,000l of fuel, which is good for a range of 625nm.
You can see some interior shots of the vessel at Superyacht times.  To Kalon is Greek for “most beautiful”. Robert Mondavi has a Napa valley Vineyard with the To Kalon name.

Bread

As Mega yachts go, Bread is pretty impressive. Reportedly owned by a major North American bakery Owner, Bread was built in Ontario, Reworked in Florida, and is now back on her way to the lakes.
Very modern, She seams to suffer from an identity crisis of wanting to be both a sailing yacht, or a Steam yacht. (See Amazon (Number 10) for an example of an actual period Yacht of this type)

Sea Dragon for Pangea Explorations

The Sea Dragon put in to Halifax, Before departing on a 14 day trip to Bermuda on the 5th (Join the Crew)

Sea Dragon is a 72ft (22m), 90,000lb displacement steel hulled sailing vessel built in the UK in 2000. Formerly known as CB 37, she is one of 11 second generation yachts built for the Global Challenge Race – one of the longest, most demanding ocean voyages ever made with an upwind, west-about 32,000km circumnavigation.

She will be open for tours from 4-6pm tonight.

The vessel is owned by Pangea Explorations.
Pangea Explorations missions are To actively strengthen the health of marine life through Exploration, Conservation and Education work. and To inspire and develop a new generation of leaders in conservation science, communication, education, art and policy leadership.

Yacht for Sale, Now only $14,000,000

The Lone ranger is an impressive yacht, who visitited Halifax back in 2008/2009 (Photo to follow, when I can dredge it out of the archive) It is For sale, and recently under went a price reduction. The yach belongs to Eric Schmit The Google co-founder and chairman.  After an intial asking price of 20million had no takers, the price has recently dropped to $14 million US.

The yacht itself is a converted ocean going salvage tug Built by Schichau-Unterweser in Germany. She was officially launched in Bremerhaven in 1973 before being delivered to the owner bugsier as Simson S. the conversion was done in the early 90’s.

Mega Yacht Season

With summer, comes the impressive collection of Mega super yachts, which cost millions of dollars to Build, and thousands of dollars to rent for a week.

One regualar visitor is the Destination Fox Harb’r Too. She is Owned by Ron Joyce, who was one of the founders of Tim Hortons. It is named after his Fox Harb’r Resort. The Destination Fox Harb’r Is a Sailing vessel, which was also owned by Ron Joyce, But I belive has now been sold.
