IT Integrity Arrives

International Telecoms new Vessel IT Integrity arrived at pier 9 over the weekend. the cable ship is a Converted Offshore Supply Vessel, and its acquisition was announced in the beginning of April. the ship, compared to the rendering looks to be missing some equipment, so its likely going to spend some time alongside getting fitted out.

Markab

Markab on Feb 8.

Markab returned to pier 9 this morning. it was last here Feb 8., before sailing to Bridgetown Barbados. Built in Norway in 1976, the ship now is operated by Furgo, and was likely conducting a subsea survey.

International Telecom Adds a Vessel

the ship is the Rolls Royce UT75L design Platform Supply vessel. It was acquired from Gulfmark and was last reported in Stavinger Norway.

From the renderings above, it looks as though the ship will be modified to perform cable handling work.I have been told that the ship has spent the last month in dry dock, with the Bulk tanks below deck being replaced with a cable tank.

IT Telecom operates from the Maritime Cable Base at Pier 9. IT Telecom currently operates IT Intrepid . IT Interceptor was apparently chartered, and since the end of 2014 has been working as the Italian Cable ship Antonio Meucci – though her class certificates were revoked in January as a survey was not completed – likely due to Corona Virus.

Cable ship Ile D’Aix

The french cable ship Ile D’aix spent some time at International telecom at pier 9, sailing last night. the ship is owned by Alcatel Lucent. On a visit last year, the ship leaked oil into the harbour and was detained by Transport Canada.

This years stop was uneventful.

Horizon Enabler for cable work.

Horizon maritime of Dartmouth registered the multifunction offshore support vessel Horizon Enabler on November 21. The former Tidewater Enabler was built by STX Offshore of Norway in 2010, and had been on charter to Horizon Maritime since August. The ship was recently involved with the removal of oil form the sunken Manolis L for the Coast Guard.

The ship arrived at pier 9 in Halifax December 4th, and will be doing work on a sub sea cable off the Magdalen Islands. She spent today on trials in the basin.

The ship joins Horizon Star as the second ship owned by Horizon though they currently operate several other Tidewater vessels on Charter.

Polar Prince and Leeway Odyssey return from Northern Cable Survey

the Polar Prince returned to Halifax over the weekend and tied up at Pier 9. She departed in July, and was joined in Hudson Bay by the Leeway Odyssey. Both ships were conducting a seabed survey for the installation of and undersea cable to server several northern communities.

The plan  will lay undersea fiber optic cable from Chisasibi north to Kuujjuaraapik, Umiujaq, Inukjuak and Puvirnituq, to have the network in operation by 2020.

the Leeway Odyssey returned to Halifax earlier in the week. Both ships are former Coast Guard Vessels, that have gone on have extended lives in the private sector. the Polar Prince is the only commercially owned icebreaker in Canada.

CS Dependable.

The cable ship Dependable put into port earlier this week and was due to sail this morning, but that seems to be delayed.

based in Baltimore, she is on standby to service undersea cables in the North Atlantic.

UPDATE. She loaded 120km of cable, and is bound for Bermuda to complete a repair. I was told after that, shes going to lay a 7400km cable – the cable itself will take almost a month to load at the port of Baltimore.

Issac Newton overwinters.

The cable layer Isaac Newton has spent the winter in Halifax. She arrived in the fall after working on laying new power transmission cables to PEI. the Ice came before the work was complete and she sailed for Halifax, and spent the winter at Pier 9. Last week she sailed to Mahone Bay for trials, and spent some time in the basin doing ROV workups, before returning to pier 9.

She applied for a Costing trade license for the time period between March 15 to June 15, so she is likely waiting for the ice to clear.

Responder Visits Pier 9

Cable ship Responder briefly put in to pier 9, departing this morning for her home base in Baltimore. She appears to be returning form some North Atlantic work, and was last noted passing Newfoundland on the 29th.
