The HHL Tokyo arrived last night for bunkers, and will be proceeding to Sheet Harbour to unload wind turbine parts.
Designed for project cargo and heavy lift, HHL Tokyo was built as Beluga Procession, originally for upstart Beluga, who attempted to grow to fast and collapsed in 2011. (Beluga made a few trips to Halifax, including delivering new CGCS Lifeboats) She was Picked up by Hansa Heavy Lift of Germany as a brand new vessel, being on the blocks when Beluga Failed.
The general Cargo Ship Beauforte has been tied up at pier 27 for the past week. I believe she was here with a load of rails for CN. She sailed from Poland on the 14th of June. She is owned by Beau Shipping, and currently chartered to Onego.
Built to an off the shelf design, she is a Damen Combi Freighter 8200, and was built in 2011. As an off the shelf Design, any shipyard can be licensed to produce it. For example, The Canadian Coast Guards Hero Class are Damen Designs, and have been built for many countries, by different yards.
With the worst of the storm still due in Halifax, many arrivals have taken shelter.
(Above)Offshore supply Vessel Panuke Sea is riding out the storm in the basin. (Below) Zim Texas arived, and went right to anchor. Maersk Palermo also arrived this morning, but tied up at 42, which is one of the most exposed piers in the port.

2 vessels made brief stops at the anchorages late this afternoon. both sailed early evening. first to arrive was the Atlantic Dawn, sailing to Charleston from Quebec City. She put in for bunkers at anchorage 7.
Following shortly behind was the bulker Aliki, bound for Sept Ile PQ to load iron ore. She pulled in to Anchorage #1fro CFIA Gypsy moth inspection before heading inland.
The general cargo ship Fanfare Arrived this morning for bunkers. 2 additional ships are scheduled to anchor today for bunkers, marking a particularly busy day for Algoma Dartmouth.
Fanfare was built in china in 2007 and owned by Dohle Schiffahrt. at 138m in length, she is typical of the type.
The General Cargo Vessel Qamutik arrived this morning from Antwerp. She is Owned and Operated by Nunavut Eastern Arctic Shipping, a Nunavut Shipping Company that operates 4 vessels for Arctic Supply. A Qamutik is a sled adapted for use in arctic sea ice conditions, So its appropriate that this vessel meets Ice Class A1.
At 114m, she is typical of the general cargo vessels that trade in Halifax. She was built in 1994 in the Netherlands, And recently was dry-docked there, and is now on her return voyage. Her arctic journey will begin in Valleyfield PQ on June 25th.
The general cargo vessel CHIPOLBROK GALAXY anchored this morning for CFIA Inspection. Built in Dec 2010, she is owned and operated by Chipolbrok America, the US Arm of the Chinese – Polish Joint Stock Shipping Co. Built to handle project cargoes, she has 3 cranes; two of which are off set, and the aft one is on the Center line.
She can carry 1904TEU, and features adjustable holds.
The US Flagged heavy lift ship Ocean Charger arrived and tied up this morning to load project cargo.
This is the the first stop for a vessel of the sort at pier 9 in a while, though with recent upgrades, we should se more of this type of activity.
Ocean Charger is Owned and operated by Pacific Gulf Marine, and is unique with her 2 120ton Lattice boom cranes. Shipfax reports she will be fitted with cable tanks, and loaded with submarine cable.
The E-ship 1 Delivered Windmill parts to Sheet Harbour This past weekend. The Vessel is rather unique as it is propelled by the wind. Her first voyage was in 2010. The ship is owned by the third-largest wind turbine manufacturer, Germany’s Enercon GmbH and is used to transport wind turbine components.
The E-Ship 1 is a Flettner ship: four large rotorsails that rise from its deck are rotated by the ship’s engines. The sails, or Flettner rotors, aid the ship’s propulsion by means of the Magnus effect — the perpendicular force that is exerted on a spinning body moving through a fluid stream.
After a recent lull, this morning brought a stream of traffic. First up was APL Pearl on the weekly G6 Assignment to Fairview Cove.
Next was the general Cargo Ship Jana, Who was last here in January. She went to Anchor, and May be carrying more rails for CN, As was the case her last stop.
Finally Albanyborg Arrived to anchored in Anchorage 1.
