Lois M and Barge Nunavut Spirit.

The Mckeil tug Lois M arrived over the weekend with the Barge Nunavut Spirit.
The tug has been working with the Hebron offshore project, and is likely here to pick up parts from Cherubini in Dartmouth.

The Tug was Built in Japan in 1991 as Lambert, and was Acquired in 2013. She is built to the same basic design as Beverly M1, Another tug acquired by Mckeil a year before, and a 2 time visitor to Halifax.

The barge Nunavut Spirit was built in Portland Oregon in 1983 as a single hull tank barge, but was converted to a flat top in 2008. she is 116m long and 32m wide, and is also owned by Mckeil.

Both Tug and Barge are registered in St. John’s Newfoundland.

Janus at Pier 9

The tug Janus Tied up at Pier 9 forward of the Australian Spirit. Janus was contracted to tow the Australian Spirit to a ship Yard in Portugal to have a new rudder fitted. The Tug Arrived Early in the Morning on the 5th.

She is a relatively New Build, and Rated at 19000hp, has lots of power for the job.

Yankee to Pier 25

The U.S. Registered tug Yankee arrived to day after noon and tied up at pier 25. She appears to be giving Oslo Norway as her destination.   She underwent a refit, and is now headed to Florida. Equipped with a towing winch, it seems her days as prt of an ATB are over, and she will go back to Cable towing.

She is making her way from the lakes, her recent locations show her passing through the welland canal, stopping in Quebec and making her way here.
She appears to be configured for barge work with slots in her now to accommodate the barge.

Silva Runs Into Trouble

 

Tonight the JRCC coordinated a response to the tall ship Silva of York Redoubt with 51 Persons on board. The vessel apparently lost power and required the assistance of a tug to return to port.

JRCC Tasked 3 CCGS Vessels and a  413Sqn Cormorant to assist.

Spanish Mist

 The Tug Spanish Mist is currently nestled up at pier 24. She arrived Saturday from a work period in Methegan.

The tug formerly worked for Fundy Gypsum, and was used to assist ships tieing up at their Hantsport. Dock. When that operation shut down in 2011, the tug was sold.

She is now owned by I.M Tug of Quebec, and is Registered in Halifax. She was Built in 1981 by ASTILLEROS ARDEAG S.A of Bilbao Spain.

Flying Tug – Gulf Spray Hauled out

One of the victems of last weeks wind was Edge Marines Tug Gulf Spray. She was blown under the stern of the Cabot at pier 9, and was badly damaged. (Below)
She was hauled out at pier 25 this afternoon.
Edge Marine has the contract for removing Garbage from Cruise Ships.
