PCTC Treasure at Pier 9

The car carrier treasure spent the day working cargo at pier 9 today. The ship arrived from Southampton UK. The ship is scheduled to move to autoport tomorrow at 11, and sail later in the evening.

Treasure was built in 1999, and is flagged in Liberia.

Acadia Desgagnes at Pier 9

The Acadia Desgagnes arrived at Pier 9 this afternoon from Belfast. Its possible the ship is carrying airplane components for Bombardier. Those components usually ship via ACL, but freight costs may have made charting a chip a better option.

Desgagnes is based in Quebec, and operates a fleet of Tankers and General cargo vessels trading domestically, into the north, and internationally. Acadia Desgagnes is still flying the Barbados flag, it will likely return to the Canadian flag for the Northern Sailing Season this summer..

Don Carlos at Pier 9

the PCTC Don Carlos moved to pier 9 this evening after spending the day at Autoport. Heavy Equipment will be unloaded, and the ship is due to sail in the early afternoon tomorrow.

The Concrete pipes sitting on the rail cars have an interesting story. These are tunnel segments, and will be used to tunnel the TransMountain Pipeline in the Jocko Lake area. Via a process known as Microtunneling, These segments are pushed through the ground hydraulically to create the tunnel. A boring machine gets pushed though the ground ahead of the tunnel segments.

The tunnel segments were manufactured in Germany. My understanding is the actual pipeline will be laid inside the tunnel.

Norwegian Ferry at Pier 9

A Norwegian Ferry showed up at Pier 9 yesterday. the SVANØY was brought over from Ålesund Norway by Logistec, and will be chartered to Société des traversiers du Québec (STQ) to cover for STQ ferries crossing the St. Lawrence river. STQ has an option to retain the ferry for 2023 as well. The ferry will be used on the Isle-aux-Coudres Crossing.

The value of the charter is $15.1million Cdn.

Logistec Moves to Pier 9

The PCTC Thalatta tied up at pier 9, and looks to be unloading Heavy Equipment from JCB. Equipment can be seen parked on the pier, and some rail cars are in the terminal to take some of it onward.

Logistec looks to have made the move to pier 9. Much of their orange coloured equipment can be seen parked on the permitted of Pier 9. Logistec traditionally was based on Pier A1, and frequently handled these types of deliveries there.

The transit shed on pier A1 is scheduled for demolition as part of the the infiling of basin between Pier A1 and B for the expansion of the PSA Halifax Atlantic Hub, which is due to begin in May.

Cable activity at Pier 9

The general cargo vessel Franbo Lohas tied up at pier 9 to install cable tanks. the ship will then likely sail to Newington, NH to load cable at the manufacturer.

the ship was built in 2016 as Thorco Lohas. Thorco vessels have been common visitors at pier 9 to load cable handling equipment over the years. Thorco sold the ship to Franbo last year.

IT Integrity also arrived back at pier 9. the ship is a converted 755-L platform supply vessel that was converted for cable work.

MSC Jersey at Pier 9

MSC Jersey tied up at Pier 9. The container ship arrived from La Havre France on Monday. The Ship is likely at pier 9 for bunkers or a work period. The ship is operating on the Montreal Express service, and is due in Montreal on the 19th.

Last week another MSC Vessel anchored in the Basin after working cargo at PSA Halifax, before moving to Fairview cove to take on bunkers.

Iver Prosperity at Pier 9

The tanker Iver Ambition tied up at pier 9. The ship is high out of the water and likely unloaded. The ship arrived on the 14th from Sept-Iles Quebec. The ship is likely here for bunkers, or a work period.
