Maersk Maker at Pier 9

The brand New Anchor Handling Supply Tug Maersk Maker arrived this morning at pier 9, after spending yesterday with the crane ship Thialf. The Ship was Built in 2019, and is flagged in St. John Newfoundland.

PCTC Grand Diamond at Pier 9

The car carrier Grand Diamond tied up at pier 9c this afternoon to offload 350 cars. The ship will likely be heading to Montreal, and needs to reduce its draft to make up up the river. The cars will then be picked up on the way back. the Ship Sailed at 16:00 giving Singapore as its destination. the ship will sail via the Suez Canal. i suspect the cars are either for local delivery, or another ship will be along to collect them.

The ship arrived from New York, and is likely carrying some sort of project cargo. This happened once before, in 2015, the Glovis Century lightened the load to pick up Military equipment. Since then, the car carriers Toscana and Onyx Arrow also tied up at pier 9 for work periods.

Halterm Expansion Update

It appears that the first block of the pier 42 expansion is complete, and work has started on the second. paint markings seem to indicate the new block is 22m in height, about 70′.

the blocks are slipformed, and once complete, will be towed into place and sunk. they will then be filled with aggregate to hold them in place, and capped with the pier top.

Halterm Pier Expansion Update

Work on the Halterm Expansion has moved to Pier 9. Dredging was completed at pier 9 Mid may, and the dump scows have been used to prepare the sea bed with coarse gravel loaded at pier 9. the Slip forming equipment is also now on site, and the first forms are being placed on the barge (above left). once the floor is cast, the outside walls and interior dividers will be cast by slip forming until the entire block is constructed. Once complete, it will be towed into place, and filler with gravel.

Algoma’s New Canadian – AlgoTerra

Algoma has acquired the product tanker Algoterra. The ship arrived at Pier 9 Sunday morning, and crews went right to work painting out her old name.

E K is all that remains of the ships former name(s)

Built in 2010 as the Louise Knutsen, the ship was renamed Louise K for the delivery trip. The ship also becomes the newest tanker in Algoma’s fleet which was built between1998-2008. Algoma took posession of the ship in Amsterdam on April 1. Algoma has been on a buying spree as of late, acquiring the product tanker AlgoNorth late last year.

BBC Kwiatkowski loads Cable Gear

After sitting at anchor in the outer anchorage for several days while 2 other BBC Shipping Vessels transferred cargo at Pier 9, BBC Kwiatkowski tied up on Saturday, and installed a cable handling gear. the ship will likely head to Baltimore to load cable.

the ship was built in 2008 as Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski and built in Gdansk Poland. the ship comes in at 6155 gt, and features two 120ton cranes.

BBC Brazil riding the hook

the BBC Brazil arrived this morning and took to anchor in the basin. The ship is scheduled to move to pier 9 tomorrow afternoon.

the ship was built in 2011 to ice class A1,features two 80 ton cranes, and is designed for use on the great lakes. the stop at pier 9 may be for bunkers before heading inland.
