Silver Explorer at pier 23

Operated by SilverSeas Cruises, Silver Explorer is a 1A ice-rated vessel. She carries up to 132 passengers in 66 cabins, and primarly sails polar expeditions during the polar summers.

Silverseas cruises’ Silver Whisper (a Much larger vessel is a regular in Halifax, And was the first Cruise Ship of 2013), and an Appearance was made last year by Silver Cloud.

Silver Explorer was last in Halifax in October 2011

Cable Ship Ile De Sein

The Alcatel Lucent Cable Ship Ile De Sein arrived this morning and tied up at Pier 9. The IT Intrepid moved out and anchored in the Basin to make room at the pier. No coasting Licenses have been issued for her to work in Canadian waters, so this is likely a pre or post job stop.

Alcatel Lucent is the french Telco equipment manufacturer. Pier 9 rests across the narrows form the Old French Cable Wharf (Now DRDC Atlantic) Halifax Serves as the Main base for IT Telecoms 2 vessels IT Intrepid and IT Interceptor, and is a frequent stop over for others.

Oceanex Connaira now Registered in Canada.

With news that Oceanex Sanderling is due for a work period in October, Oceanex Connaira was quietly registered in Canada on Sept 20, And is currently conducting trials. Its possible she may make it to Canada in time to take over for the Sanderling.

 Oceanex Connaigra is being built by Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft mbH & Co. KG of Germany, And was Announced in October 2012 She Launched May 31 2013.

Halifax Shipyard wins 2 repair contracts

MV Oceanex Sanderling (Above), a container/cargo ship owned by Oceanex Inc., is scheduled to arrive into Halifax Shipyard’s Nova Dock during the second week of October 2013 for a two-week project to perform routine maintenance and repairs.  The project is projected to require approximately 90 employees.

Later in the fall, the MV Holiday Island (Below) is expected to arrive at Halifax Shipyard for two weeks of general repairs and routine maintenance.  The Passenger Ferry is owned by NFL Northumberland Ferries Limited and is expected to make its call into the Nova Dock in the November timeframe.  This project is expected to require approximately 50 employees.

(Both images File Photos) There is a rumor around that the GSF Grand Banks is Due for a refit over the winter. Halifax Shipyard is in the running for the work, however there may not be able to do the work due to issues with winter painting.
