YM Essence Sailed early this morning concluding the first call for the Alliances AL1 Service. AL1 is served exclusively  by Yang-ming Vessels, and also will have calls from YM Express, YM Evolution and YM Enlightenment.

The AL 1 Service looks to mirror the transatlantic portion of the G6 PA1 service. the routing is as follows:

Her Arrival and departure times did not avail herself to a photo.

The Alliance Begins Service – AL6 Arrived today.

The Alliance made its first call of the AL6 Service today with the Arrival of the K-Line Ship Brevik Bridge to Fairview Cove. The AL 6 is a new service for the Alliance, and for Halifax. It roughly mirrors the current ZIM and Melfi Services that call on Halifax, though those both service the Caribbean, which this does not. The routing is Livorno – La Spezia – Genoa – Fos – Barcelona – Valencia – Salerno – Halifax – New York – Norfolk – Savannah – Salerno – Valencia – Livorno

AL 6 looks to be exclusively served by the K-Line Service. Other ships serving this route include Budapest Bridge, Berlin Bridge, Bilbao Bridge, and Brotonne Bridge

The Alliances Other New services Start soon. EC 5 makes its first stop May 6 with the Ningbo Express, which Started the trip April 8th.This is a mixed pool, with ships coming from all partners.

AL1 is served by Yang-ming Vessels, and Begins April 23 with YM Essence, YM Express and YM Evolution and YM Enlightenment. the PA1 Service it replaces ends on May 25th with a call by NYK Nebula

Oceanex, Ice, and Bow Damage.

Oceanex has recently been having a rough go of it in the ice.  The other week, Oceanex Connaigra was sporting large dents in her bulbous bow after encountering ice. The same fate appears to have occurred to Oceanex Sanderling, who is currently tied up at pier 36, with new plating being installed on her bow.

given the limited extent of the damage, my guess is the ships struck Growlers, basically “small” chunks of ice floating floting south. While much smaller then a an Iceberg, they clearly can do alot of damage.

ACL G4 #3 Atlantic Sea

The third ACL G4 vessel Atlantic sail has made a few trips to Halifax, but I wasen’t able to get a picture of her until yesterday. The 2 remaining g4 vessels apper to be complete, but are still at the shipyard and have not been delivered. the First, Atlantic Star, has also been drydocked within the last week, just short of 1 year after her maiden voyage in April 2016.  ACL Parent Company Grimaldi groups (the G on the funnel is for them) ship Grande Dakar is filling in, and sailed for Halifax from Liverpool England this morning.

Tug Genesis Victory and barge GW6506

Appearing to be loaded, and arriving from Texas, the Articulated Tug and barge Genesis Victory / GW6506 likely is waiting in the basin to offload at one of the terminals in Halifax. there are currently 6 Oil terminals in the Port. the First is the Tufts Cove Power plant, the Second is Wilson’s Fuel at Pier 9.

Irving has revamped their wharf at woodside, and is now accepting their own product. Imperial oil is still operating their terminal on the refinery site, McAsphalt industries operates a wharf in eastern passage to accept liquid asphalt products, and Valero has their wharf in Eastern Passage.

Issac Newton overwinters.

The cable layer Isaac Newton has spent the winter in Halifax. She arrived in the fall after working on laying new power transmission cables to PEI. the Ice came before the work was complete and she sailed for Halifax, and spent the winter at Pier 9. Last week she sailed to Mahone Bay for trials, and spent some time in the basin doing ROV workups, before returning to pier 9.

She applied for a Costing trade license for the time period between March 15 to June 15, so she is likely waiting for the ice to clear.

Shiping Ships

This Morning Ferry passengers began tweeting Photos of the BigLift vessel Happy River, heading for the Basin with a Ship on Deck. Happy River tied up at Fairview Cove.

The Boat is a Corvette of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, and is bound for Daemons Netherlands Shipyard. recall that Biglift brought the Tops of Atlantic Towing’s new Platform Supply Vessels along with several containers of equipment. Its likely that the Happy River stopped to pick up those containers for the return trip to the shipyard.

The Thorco Crown was successfully towed to Sydney by Svitzer Bedford, and tied up last night. The vessel was sailing of Newfoundland, when she suffered an Engine room Fire and lost power. Thorco Crown is 3 years old. Svitzer has 3 tugs based in the port Hawksbury area. After the Thorco Crown Lost power, the CCGS William Alexander was able to take her under tow.
